Director of Corneal Services
Dr. Beckman is a board-certified ophthalmologist and cornea specialist. He was born in Columbus and graduated from Bexley High School. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from The Ohio State University. After an internship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Dr. Beckman completed an ophthalmology residency at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Cleveland, serving as chief resident in 1994-1995. He then completed a cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery fellowship at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Beckman has been practicing ophthalmology in Columbus since 1996 and joined Comprehensive EyeCare in July 2012 as Director of Corneal Services. He is also a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at The Ohio State University.
Dr Beckman’s areas of interest include corneal and cataract surgery, external disease, dry eye, keratoconus, and corneal crosslinking. He has been principal investigator in numerous clinical trials involving dry eyes, ocular surface disease, and corneal crosslinking, and has published many articles in peer review and trade journals. He also performed the first FDA-approved corneal crosslinking procedure in Ohio.
Dr. Beckman is a past president and founding member of the Cornea External Disease and Refractive Surgery society (CEDARS), a founding member of the American European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgeons (AECOS), a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Cornea Clinical Committee, past president and past treasurer of the Columbus Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Society, and a past member of the Board of Directors for Prevent Blindness Ohio. Dr. Beckman is listed in Best Doctors, Castle Connolly Top Doctors, the Global Directory of Who’s Who, and is listed as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists by Consumers’ Research Council of America in cornea and cataract surgery. He is also listed in Ocular Surgery News Premier Surgeon 300 Innovators in Refractive Cataract Surgery.
